IT’S A WHALE OF AN EXHIBIT AT SEA LIFE™ CARLSBAD!

Today SEA LIFE™ Aquarium hosted the public debut of “Beach Trash, A Whale of a Problem,” an inspirational project teaching kids they really can make a difference – one piece of trash at a time. Six first grade classes from Jefferson Elementary in Carlsbad have been collecting beach trash since October and have worked with environmental artist Teresa Espaniola to turn it into a life-sized gray whale mosaic – all while learning about the ocean and the role they can play in saving our seas.

“gARTbage” at SEA LIFE Aquarium

In this colorful new art installation, artist Teresa Espaniola uses local beach trash to create unique and amazingly beautiful art. Born in California, Teresa is known for painting seascapes as well as for her unique works using found objects and beach trash. The ocean has always been a love in her life, from tide pooling in California to living in Hawaii, immersing herself in surfing and diving and meeting many ocean dwellers face to face. Having experienced the best of the ocean, she now brings awareness about the worst of it through her art and working with children.
